What would it take for you to sell your data? How much?

It’s been tried many times, but I haven’t seen any companies really successful at helping people sell their data. Imagine you download an app or sign up on a website to give a company complete access to everything you do on your phone. All your apps, search, spending, social, etc. etc. Everything you buy to every place you surf online to every message and email you write. How much is that worth to you?

Would you give up all your data for $100 per month? $500 per month? It’s an interesting thing to think about. I have seen some companies try this, but offer small amounts of cash like $10 per month. The value of data goes down over time as more and more of it becomes available. But in a world where building a moat of data is so valuable, what would the value be to a company if they had 100s of thousands or millions of people sharing all their data? Knowingly sharing. Not sharing based on small text in a disclaimer on a web page they have never been to or on a click-thru they have never read, but actually signing up to sell their data. The monetization opportunities are endless.

Take it a step further, what is your knowledge worth? Your expertise? In an expert network, people are paid on average $350 an hour for their knowledge. The high-end, knowledge experts charge $1500 or more an hour. Would you be open to having to do a brain dump on the topics you know the most for 5 hours a week for an extra $2000 a week? How about for $500 per week? If it was consistent revenue every week for at least 6 months, what would you charge?

At some point with the value of data becoming something every company and AI LLM is after, you have to ask yourself how much investment dollars is worth throwing at acquiring data. What is the most valuable data?

I think there is a price where I would share everything I purchase. Maybe not my texts and email, but what I surf online, the apps I use. My expertise, there is a price I would share it for. Just like I would take an expert network call for the right price at the right time.

How much would you charge for your data?
