I was in SF last week. The energy and buzz were strong.
As I was riding in a Waymo on my way to see our portfolio company SlashExperts, the energy of SF felt as strong as ever. I lived in SF in North Beach and Lower Pac Heights after college while I first worked at Bloomberg, and have been coming back every so often, especially now that I live in San Diego. As an investor, we have a handful of companies in SF, including Frec, SlashExperts, SyntheticFi, and a few others, but our portfolio companies are pretty spread out across the US and Canada, with founders in Atlanta, LA, NYC, Miami, Austin, Toronto, etc.
SF felt like it was booming. From the coffee shops and restaurants, to the founders and LPs I met with. The buzz of AI and energy was strong. I feel the energy every time I go to NYC, maybe because the density is so much stronger, but SF felt like it was buzzing last week.
I was in town, meeting with a few of our portfolio companies as well as hosting a dinner with LPs, founders, and some friendly VC’s in our network. I hosted the dinner with one of our fund of funds portfolio managers, Rishi from Garuda.vc The dinner was a great success with a dozen of us getting together and talking about everything happening in the world and sharing stories. I even think there were a few deals closed during dinner, which is always a plus for the founders who attend.
