What is a fair price? We are getting a glimpse of the Truth.

Truth social is charging for faster data.

Want access to the latest trump post? $100k monthly or $60k with a 3 year contract. This feels like my early hedge fund days when you could pay a million or up to $10m annually to get access to consumer credit and debit card transactions with no delays while other buyers had anywhere from a week to a month delay.

Faster data = higher costs

It’s a smart move for data vendors. Is it ethical? It’s debatable. Especially for information like a post on truth social. But if you want real time pricing from exchanges you pay more than 15min delays. Is that any different?

Many firms would happily pay $100k monthly for data that moves the market. That’s real alpha edge. Bloomberg news many years ago charged $30k monthly for a real time news feed.  Most can’t afford that. Twitter charged numerous different prices back when GNIP was their exclusive reseller. You paid for the full firehose and got a huge amount more than their 10% of all tweets hose.

The game of data is costly when it’s exclusive data. It’ll be interesting to hear how many hedge funds and financial institutions are going to pony up money for the new truth social feed.
