I have always believed that having a meal with someone is the best way to really get to know them. And I’ll never forget the best eggs I ever had in London….they were soft scrambled

In-person meetings are back. Back to office is back. To be honest it’s nice to speak to people in person. I have Zoom fatigue these days. It’s efficient, but nothing beats in-person meetings. Have a drink, coffee, or share a meal. When we invest in founders at Social Leverage we like to meet them in person, have a meal, and get to know them.

One of the most memorable business meals I have had was when I was working at a hedge fund. It was a late Tuesday evening and I found out I needed to be in London for breakfast with a now-famous AI founder (who previously had an exit to Google at the time) that Thursday morning. Last minute red-eye from NYC to London. I was joined by my good friend Aakash Ramchandani. That breakfast was memorable for many reasons. Part of it was confirming that what we were building on the data science team was the right approach, part of it was a test to see how we did at the meeting with some of the smartest people in tech, and part of it was networking. What I remember about the meeting the most was the meal. Sharing the meal and the stories during that meal.

One thing I will never forget about that meal was the eggs. Likely the best eggs I have ever had and the best eggs I will ever have. Soft scrambled. Like a pillow of fluff. In person meetings take more effort then zoom. It requires traveling or commuting, but in the end, its the best way to truly get to know someone.
