September- Conference Season Begins

When I worked in the hedge fund world, it would always be extra quiet in August. We would joke that after Labor Day, everyone comes back full steam ahead. The final charge. September is right around the corner and that means the conferences are gearing up!
In my early career, I attended every conference that was remotely relevant. Traveling all over the world in search of any data vendor that was potentially valuable for our investment process. Many of these companies we invested in privately as well. Nowadays I am more picky about the conferences I go to and the majority of the time I don’t buy a ticket to the event. I have found that I spend so much time networking, and taking meetings, that having a ticket to most of the conferences hasn’t provided any additional value. Also, the panels, and speaker topics are always hit or miss. I can’t image how hard it is to put together a strong lineup of content for these events.
In the coming months though I have bought tickets, was given tickets, or will be speaking at a handful of events: Futureproof in Huntington Beach, Montreal Fintech Week as Portage will be hosting, & Benzinga’s Fintech Deal Day. I am also planning to pop into Vegas for Money2020, but have not bought a ticket to the event as there tend to be dozens of events around the conference that I have found more valuable over the years
All this to say, I am feeling recharged and mentally preparing for conference time to kick off. If you are attending any of these events and want to catch up, shoot me a note. And if there is a must-attend event I should be going to, please let me know!
