Prompt Engineer is the new Data Scientist

For the last 10 years, the hot job title was the Data Scientist. The trend feels like the Prompt Engineer will be the next wave! When will we start seeing Chief Prompt Officer, Chief Prompt Analyst, & Chief Prompt Scientist?

When I was leaving WorldQuant the job title of Data Scientist was becoming increasingly popular. Especially in Wall Street, there was a wave of data scientists being hired across banks, fundamental hedge funds, and everywhere in between. Now it is common to see Data Analysts, Data Scientists, and Data Engineers throughout financial services firms working on investment analysis and research. I’d love to see over the last 10 years the data on how many engineers have become data scientists. Maybe Revellio has this data?

If I was at the beginning of my career or making a career change, I’d go all in on learning everything there is to master using the new AI tools. Become an expert in leveraging all of these tools. Become an expert in prompting. Stay up to speed on the latest plug-ins. Every day there seems to be a new feature or product being released. How many data scientists are going to have prompt engineer titles in the next 5 years?
