Retail wants access to private investments. What has to change for this to be possible?

Vlad, CEO of $HOOD ( ▼ 2.63% ) OOD, talks about this around the 6:30 mark in this video recently. There is lots of talk about the tokenization of private investments. Making private investments more liquid, easily tradeable, easily tracked, and more available. You also have the accredited investor topic. Currently you must be an accredited investor or a qualified purchaser to be an investor in private investments.

I think its clear that there is demand for private investments from a larger audience. You see the popularity and demand for alternative investment vehicles within wealth management and that is just the first wave. The ability to buy private companies via a brokerage like Robinhood, Schwab, WeBull, etc. is likely coming in the next few years. Companies are staying private longer. Companies aren’t going through an IPO as often. Just like people investing in options or other riskier investments, there is an appetite to mix in some diversification with private stock. Everyone seems to want some SpaceX, OpenAI, or Anthropic in their portfolio. Wouldn’t it be great if the masses could back the next humanoid company i.e. Apptronik or Figure AI?

Deregulation or changes in financial regulation is something that must happen for this all to be possible, but it isn’t crazy to think that Robinhood and other fast moving brokerages are going to offer this in the next 3-5yrs.
