How much can investors really get?
The Initial Data Offering (IDO) community is a place for data enthusiasts to discover new datasets daily.

How much can investors really get? That is the question everyone asks when I tell them that in 2023 there was $8.1B in securities class action settlements. When Social Leverage invested in 11th Estate, we had been doing our homework for a few years on the securities class action settlements space. I first started learning about it when class action settlements were being discussed in the crypto space, specifically around the FTX case.
As I spent more and more time learning about the opportunity, I was surprised to learn how many retail and institutional investors don’t claim their money!
There are some great examples that the team at 11th Estate has put together. The Volkswagen case is a good example. The company settled for $48 million after being accused of damages around emissions tests. A key highlight is the high recovery rate of 191%, indicating that investors who filed claims received almost twice their losses. Notably, only 17% of eligible investors submitted claims, leading to an average payout of $3,183.

Why don’t people claim? Most are just unaware. Many that do claim fill out paperwork incorrectly. Many people get notices and think It’s a scam or their claim potential will be so small it’s not worth the time. Why not have a 3rd party handle this for you?
If you think about the amount of money going unclaimed it’s pretty wild. For wealth managers, hedge funds, institutions, and broker-dealers- 11th Estate has an enterprise API service to make this seamless for you to recover. If you are just an average investor with a brokerage account and you are curious if you have any unclaimed $$$$ - simply go to the 11th Estate website and connect your account.
The amount of money being left on the table is astonishing and I am excited to see this industry evolve with technology, education, and transparency.
