How to Keep up with Product Releases

As a consumer or buyer, its hard and almost impossible to keep up with product releases and updates, especially data products. This problem was one of the many inspirations behind Initial Data Offering
I have owned the web domain InitialDataOffering.com for years. It was an idea I had a long time ago and like many ideas, going to Godaddy to purchase the URL was the best way to make sure I didn’t forget. I was constantly trying to think of ways to keep up with companies releasing new data products, new versions, and new offerings. I used tools like Meltwater to track news from small vendors thinking this would work. I tried Google News alerts. In the end, it was impossible to keep track of new data products or updates.
How do you know when S&P Global is releasing a new dataset? Especially if you are a customer interested in many of their verticals from automobiles to new SNL fundamental datasets. When Revellio Labs, the jobs data company, creates a new product, or a new derived data offering, how do I find out? When Finchat.io announced their recent funding round and their KPI & Segments data, how do they get in front of the right audience?
When I was managing thousands of data vendor relationships on top of managing relationships with banks, technology providers, and dozens of independent research providers, there was no centralized way to find out about new product offerings, especially new data offerings. I would sign up for hundreds of email lists or newsletters hoping I would find out. I would tell every sales rep to call me whenever they had anything new or innovative being built. It was a nightmare to say the least.
When I talk to vendors, especially data vendors, I hear the same thing over and over again- How do I find new companies to sell to? How do I take my product I built for financial institutions and start selling it to corporations? to consultants?
My hope is InitialDataOffering.com will solve this over time. A community of data vendors, data buyers, data enthusiasts, and anyone interested in the latest datasets being built for all industries. Curated and delivered to your inbox or via social channels like Linkedin. I encourage you to check out the site and subscribe if this problem resonates with you.
