Apple hasn’t deployed billions in AI. They own distribution. They have watched everyone spend spend spend. Now they are partnering. Maybe waiting for open source to make AI available even cheaper.
Bloomberg hasn’t jumped into offering an MCP. They have distribution with their terminal. They watched $FDS ( ▲ 1.86% ) and $SPGI ( ▼ 0.46% ) dump their data into Anthropic and ChatGPT alongside hundreds of competitors. Is Bloomberg smart to wait this out? They are “experimenting” and doing internal research.
There will be new data winners that are AI native and in the AI workflows. But there is a potential moat for Bloomberg to not participate. Hold on to their terminal revenue and try to lock customers in their ecosystem. Keep their data across every asset class away from Anthropic and OpenAi. This might be smart. See how it a plays out. The flip side is there will be new winners, potential new competitor but the pie is growing and this new pie may just be a piece of pie that Bloomberg doesn’t want especially if it threatens the current pie they own.
This will play out quickly as $FDS and $SPGI defend their turf while trying to win new pie. It’ll be fun to see if this was the smart move by Bloomberg or just a big miss as they allow new winners to own the AI native data opportunity.
