Nuts! Coconuts

My investments at Social Leverage focus on Fintech & the data industry, but once in a while I like to look back on personal investments I made over the years. One I made many years ago while working at WorldQuant and doing investments via WorldQuant Ventures, was in a company called Copra Coconuts.

The founder, Ben Minges started the company, which is based both in Thailand and the US. Like all the early stage investments I do, the focus is on the founder and big ideas. Ben is a killer. Having grown up in Thailand and the US and then seeing his father work for Pepsi, Ben got into the Coconut water industry. At first, trying to go direct to consumer and then realizing the huge opportunity to be the manufacturer and factory for everyone to build a coconut water brand. They do everything from coconut water, to coconut meat, to smoothies, nectar & more. Thailand is famous for having the best coconuts in the world, and Ben is building an empire. Their coconuts are in products that can be found around the world, from Whole Foods to Costco, to Trader Joe’s and endless locations.

I always wanted to have my own coconut water brand and call it ObeCoco, but never got it off the ground! With Copra Coconuts, I could hypothetically create my own brand and have the team be the manufacturing and facility. If you own a restaurant that uses coconut or are building a coconut water or smoothie brand, I highly recommend working with the Copra team.
