The big news and the buzz on X.com was DeepSeek. A Chinese company hits #1 in the app store, and supposedly builds a better OpenAI-ChartGPT, but on a shoestring budget with a small team. Created by a successful hedge fund manager, DeepSeek has taken the world by surprise and supposedly built a more impressive LLM than OpenAI and all the competition, but has only spent a reported $5.5m. In addition, DeepSeek is completely open-sourced.
The internet is a buzz about how DeepSeek was created. Their new and innovative training methods. Is China behind this? Did they open-source this to just take down the US competitors? Is DeepSeek going to be allowed by the US government especially if we are going after TikTok?
In response to DeepSeek everyone is worried about $NVDA
The selloff of everything from crypto, to the futures markets, to anything AI-related has to be tied to all the questions around DeepSeek. Also what does this mean to the billions of $$$$ that has been spent by the VC community in AI companies?
In addition, Trump is fighting with Colombia and everyone is worried that the tariff retaliations are going to drive up our daily coffee!!!
One thing that Trump is bringing back is the always-on attitude. Nights, weekends, every day of the week, you don’t know whats going to happen. It feels like with Trump back, markets are more volatile, the world is on notice and action is non-stop.
This week is setting up to be interesting; with lots of companies reporting earnings, more insights on what is DeepSeek and was it really developed for pennies on the dollar, and how does our fight with Colombia escalate.
