One of my favorite places to go in Canada is Montreal. The Canada Fintech Forum is next week
Montreal has always been a place I have enjoyed going. This year I am heading to the Canada Fintech Forum and the Portage event which is being held next week. At Social Leverage, we have a handful of companies that we have backed that are spread out around Canada, many of which will be attending the event. We also have a few of our US fintech companies making the trip up. We will be throwing a Social Leverage happy hour for our friends, investors, and founders. Reach out if you are going to be in town.
I find it interesting how Canada has put together some great incentives for founders to hire talent locally and we are seeing a lot of our portfolio companies building out their teams in Toronto. I am a believer that WFH is a good option to get great talent, but it is also important to do in-person meetings. It’s exciting to see the cultures of young companies as they work in offices together or make efforts to see people in person on a regular basis. I know as we look at new investments, meeting founders in person has been something we always try to do and it has been extremely helpful in our process.
As I plan for my trip next week I am looking forward to meeting our founders, investors, and meeting new companies as we look to continue to invest in early-stage startups.
