AI Costs- Great for Most of us

Every day we see billions of dollars going into LLMs (Large Language Models). From OpenAI to Anthropic to all sorts of AI bets at the largest levels. If you are building foundational AI and not raising at valuations over a billion dollars, are you even competing?

While the .01% of investors chase the next LLM story, the rest of us benefit from what feels like a race to the bottom in AI costs. Sure they charge us API fees and everyone is being charged for the latest co-pilots, but similar to the cloud technology races between $AMZN ( ▼ 1.59% ) , $GOOGL ( ▼ 0.85% ) , and $MSFT ( ▲ 0.31% ) , we as end consumers and end business builders benefit from these technology breakthroughs.

At this point, I think we can agree that AI isn’t going to destroy or kill SaaS, but instead, it is going to change how SaaS is built. How many people are needed to build software companies? How we fundraise for software businesses and most importantly it is pretty clear that all software businesses being built will leverage AI in some fashion. From the developers’ coding to using AI agents as part of the workflow for end users to making everyone more efficient.

Our sponsor of the newsletter for example, Odin Ultra, offers AI-powered fundamental forecasts. Just a few years ago this wouldn’t be possible. But now with the power of AI they can create forecasts for 1300+ US companies. The opportunities to leverage AI across new and old business ideas are just scratching the surface. Every day I see a few billion go into LLM companies and I wake up excited to know that whatever they spend that money on, we will benefit from what they build.
