Everyone is talking about agents. Now the hedge fund employees have them too!
AI Agent talk is everywhere, but this is about more traditional agents. Like Ari from Entourage type agents! According to the WSJ, elite hedge fund employees are hiring agents to negotiate their typically very complicated multi million dollar contracts.
This has been a long time coming, and honestly, it makes a ton of sense. Hedge fund employees are making millions, in some cases $50m+, and these typically are complicated contracts, involving everyone having lawyers and in some cases, lawsuits over non-competes or stealing IP. Every employee should have an agent working on their behalf to get them the best deal, and starting with the hedge funds makes a ton of sense.
When I left WorldQuant to go to Third Point many years ago, I had a great recruiter who helped with the negotiation. But at the end of the day, that recruiter was on retainer from Third Point, so was he working in my best interest? Did I receive the most money & benefits with the best legally worded contract?
On top of agents helping with employment agreements, they really need to move to the next level and start negotiating sponsorships and endorsements. The top employees should have a shoe deal, an apparel deal, and an automotive and restaurant deal. Think about it- these top employees are typically on stage speaking at events, they are looked up to by many in the office and in the industry. What they wear, the watch they have on, the shoes they walk in, the food they eat for lunch, the car they arrive in, these are all marketing opportunities. If you want to be the best, get mentored by the best, copy the best. From the shoes to the belt, to the watch on their wrist. You get the idea.
When I was Chief Data Scientist at Third Point, I would always say, when is $NKE ( ▼ 0.03% ) going to give me a shoe deal. When is $LULU ( ▼ 0.5% ) going to sponsor me to wear some of those ABC Pants? Why hasn’t $TSLA ( ▲ 0.19% ) paid me to drive their car to work! Everyone talks about micro influencers and tapping into social media, but the big opportunity is sponsoring the office workers. Who wants to pay to advertise during my hours of Zoom $ZM ( ▼ 1.35% ) meetings every day? For the right price, you can have your logo hanging in my virtual background, with me drinking your soft drink and wearing your hat! Beehiiv has an ad network, why hasn’t $ZM ( ▼ 1.35% ) thought about doing something similar and letting advertisers flood our Zoom meetings. For the right price, I’d entertain it!
